First you double the far side men
Add big diagonal, double again.
Add small diags, times 3, plus 30,
And the final shifting is perty.

If you satisfied to have the count in half-crossover terms, stop after "diags." (You compare it to Opp's count after diags.)

In Tom's example, 14 + 5, double = 38. Add 7 = 45.
