Nack will have a better answer for this that I can give. According to Paul Weaver, Mr. Ballard is one of the best nactators around.

I recall, however, that Nack mentioned somewhere the possibility of creating a separate family for plays that bear off. Until then, the I (Inside) family gives a way to indicate a play that bears off. Indeed, any family that includes and "inside" component, such as A (Attack), can be used to indicate a play that bears off, provided, of course, that all checkers still in play are brought home in the process.
