For comparison, people might want to look at this discussion of a position that I posted recently to rec.games.backgammon. There, as here, my inclination was not to split in the face of White's stacks of builders when this far behind in the race, but instead to focus on building our board. 11/5 here is not so risky because we're less afraid of getting hit in the outfield than White is of getting hit back after breaking anchor.

The catch is, in the r.g.b. position, the bot preferred to split. I think it's instructive to compare the two positions.
