Suppose you are to play a long series of matches to an inferior opponent. Your probability of winning a match is larger than one half. However, you have to specify the fraction of your capital that you will put at stake at each match. If the fraction you choose is too high, you will eventually get ruined, even if you are the favourite at each individual match.
This is why, even in casinos, despite the house advantage, there are upper limits to the bets that a player can place. Without such limits, the casino, with a very large but still finite amount of capital, would eventually get busted.
