Prize structure

Prompted by the recent discussion of prize structure, I would like to ask what you think of the following options.

There is a random draw with no seeding.

The following numbers are just for illustration and could be varied to suit the particular tournament.

There are four Stake Increments. For example, $10, $20, $30, $40. Everyone puts up the first Increment ($10) and competes for the distribution of the total contributed to that Increment. Only those putting up the next Increment ($20) compete for the distribution of the total contributed to that Increment. And so on.

Variation: the first Increment could be $0 to encourage novices who would like an opportunity to play giants.

Variation: the first Increment is segregated. If you pay the first Increment, you cannot contribute to the subsequent Increments. And vice versa. Again, novices could play giants but novices would compete only with other novices for the distribution of the first Increment.
