pay-out and entry fees

I agree with Mochy here.

Usually, considering travel expenses, itīs very hard to achieve a ROI + x on tournaments. It takes a lot of skill and a good portion of luck to win any tournament and the win should be able to leave something in your pocket when you get back home.

I am also a big fan to paying one prize per 8 players of a field.

There are other ways of offering a nice tournament experience to all others who donīt cash and keep their interest in joining tournaments.

Entry fees are a separate issue and itīs very difficult to find the rght amounts, if you want to avoid sandbagging, still paying out something substantial, raking enough by percentage to cover your expenses as organizer, etc. Some events are also prestigious by their titles or the added money or their uniqueness or elite character and have to make a difference as well in their entry fees.
