Finalists not a surprise

The argument made above is that lower entry fees would generate higher participation and larger prize pools.
Someone else might want to actually find out, but my guess would be that the correlation (if any) of the cost of entry with both attendance and total prize pool at ABT tournaments in recent years, is positive, not negative. And further, I would imagine that whether or not lowering or increasing entry fees at any particular tournament would lower or raise entries has a great deal to do with tournament reputation and longevity, location, time of year, etc., that is, many more factors than a simple cost:attendance relationship might suggest.
Below, attendance and (for some tournaments) entry fees at the most recent or next holding of:
Tournament Open Masters Most recent attendance Las Vegas Open $400 Masters $1000/$2000 75+21 16 and 16 Flint $230 $500 75 32 LA Open $300 $450 62 40 Texas $400 $600 62 24+3 New York Metro 59+23 27+5 Pittsburgh 58 32 Chicago Open 58 16 California State 48 31 CSI 47 10 Beltway 41 12 Illinois State 39 8 Nevada State 37+5 8 and 8 Atlanta 32 11 Wisconsin 29 8 Ohio State 28 12 Golden State 24 14+2 Sunshine State 18 8 Minnesota $250 $400 16 4 Florida State $300 $400 16 6+2 $ amounts shown are not selective; I just don't feel like looking any more of them up.
