I can't see any reason not to hit since we're not up an obnoxious amount without hitting in the race and it definitely helps us escape the back checkers. After 20/18* we're therefore left with continuing, coming down, or popping out. Continuing is natural as it's the easiest way to help escape all the checkers and doesn't allow the opponent's non entering numbers, 4s and 6s, to hit.
