in pool true double elimination means that the player who loses once(at anytime during the tourney) and comes thru the losers side to play in the finals, has to double dip(beat he winners side player twice in the finals) the person who came thru the winners side(who has yet to lose-the last man standing).

Sometimes to save time (the TD's decision)the final match is just longer a race to 13 or 15 instead of 9 or 11. Therefore if the player on the winners side loses that match he takes 2nd place, yet has only lost one match like the player who came thru the losers side. IMO that's not "True" double elimination.

True double elimination is when the player on the winners side knocks out the losers side player in one match, therefore undefeated the whole tourney or the player in the losers bracket double dips, wins twice. First win to knock the winners side player into the losers side then a final match because both players have one loss.

I like the true double elimination format better than the "extended" last match. As do most players and rail birds. The TD's do what they want to do and because of time they take short cuts at the end of the event, and IMO short change everyone. Sometime's it's unavoidable in all fairness to the TD's who generally do a good job in pool. Poor scheduling or planning is the main reason.

How does this work here?

I wish everyone the very best,

regards eric
