I like the way Joe flipped around my point: Fooling yourself is not going to help your game. Joe added the second part: But it will help your opponent!

It takes a certain level of accomplishment before one can freely admit ones weaknesses and not sacrifice self-assurance in the process. Put plainly, if you have a handful of achievements, it is easy to acknowlege a failure or two. Take away those successes, however, and all that may be left is bluster.

There is not a much I can do—backgammon-wise—for a world-class player such as yourself or the others who post on this site. But if any of you need someone to carry your board into the tournament hall, let me know. I'm qualified.

No fooling.
