When it comes to sports etc, they all typically have 'seasons' when they are played. A distinct period of time, which equates to either part of a year, or a full year.

IF there was some kind of reward - whether its financial or media or sponsorship or something that really benefited the players, then yes, tournaments would increase in size and participation. Otherwise, its just a list of the current performing (results) best players.

I applaud the goal. I am sorely tempted to write letters to any organization that *may* become a sponsor, and see what fruits may fall.
