What if a position was a proposition and not necessarily a complete game? Who really knows what the context of a single position was. Could be a game, games, proposition (part of game) or could just be a singular position. You are trying to measure the current value at a given position. Using something like "play" or "session" doesn't tie you to any boundaries.

My problem with "single game" though is that it can be confused with previous usage of the term. "single game" is often a term I have seen in literature (and posts) in the context of the number of points a game is worth - "single game", "gammon", or "backgammon".
