You *should* prefer to shorten the match with this type of position because you are putting an extra 2 points on to the value of the game without any possibility of it having caused you to make errors as a result of cubing it. Trying to get the same extra 2 points via a gammon later on is simply going to incur some extra opportunities for you to make errors in misplaying the gammon attack.
