Badly. Most scores aren't free drop scores so your rule is barely any better than guessing. My rule is approx 33 times more accurate than guessing if one assumes that scores occur equally regularly (which they don't). Same goes for variants of always splitting - in fact always splitting is fractionally *worse* than guessing! (because slotting has very slightly less total error).
