This is a bit like Lenny's and Wolfgang's answer and probably not what you were thinking of but for many players the biggest problem is dealing with randomness. May never get better because they attribute losses to luck when playing poorly was a big factor and also focus on recent rolls instead of the current roll.

After this weekend I will also nominate setting up the board correctly to start a game.
