I'm reviving an old thread from July 2014 in which trichard wrote (in response to the question in the subject line):

When it's correct to hit loose on my one point even though my opponent has a better board.

I'm starting a series of problems on rec.games.backgammon where hitting loose on the ace point is one of the candidate plays. Not all the problems will feature a stronger board for the opponent, but some of them will.
