The extra spare on 6 in original position makes 6/4 more beneficial.

Maybe the race being 7 pips worse means that anchoring has more time to make plays uncomfortable for opponent and also that the possible racing varations from keeping checkers split are not as strong. Note that the change made equities from one play worse and other play better.
