bridge bidding (OT)

Consider this a reply to all the nice replies my question has yielded, and not specifically to Casper.
It's my feeling that 2 spades requires more than just 16 points. My partner has shown 6-9 and denied 4 spades. If I only have 16 points, then I could be forcing him to the 3-level with us potentially only holding 22 points. Then maybe better to just play 1nt. So I think I should be 18+ to bid 2 spades.
As for distribution, my partner has denied 4 spades, so why would I bother to introduce spades if I am only holding 4? So, I reckon I should have something like a 6 diamonds - 5 spades distribution to bid 2 spades.
But if 2 spades is forcing, then how to invite?
Could 2 spades be seen as an invitation to play 3NT if my partner can help in Clubs or Hearts? (then he should bid 3 Clubs or Hearts if he has a stopper in one of those suits and he should bid 3 nt if he has a stopper in both suits). If this is the line of thinking, then perhaps 3 spades in stead of 2 spades would show the 6-5 distribution?
I am not sure at all about the meaning of 2 nt. Denmark's best player sees 2 spades as forcing. I am not sure.
