Teaching Backgammon to childeren ?

We recently learned that Tesco recommends starting at 3 years of age so that the kids can get in a full two years of playing before retirement.
Seriously, though, it's possible to treat backgammon like Candy Land and teach it to three-year-olds. I think it doesn't hurt to introduce the game sooner rather than later, even if the strategic depth of the game is over the heads of little kids. If they like the game then more depth can be introduced gradually.
There has been some previous discussion of the subject on this forum before that you may find helpful.
