Backgame Checker Play - Rollout

To justify spending time on a play, it is not enough for the decision to be important (i.e., for significant equity to ride on it). You also have to believe that spending more time on it will appreciably increase your chances of arriving at the best play.
I've noticed that often when CMC says that he wouldn't spend a lot of time on a play, it's because the latter condition isn't satisfied. For example, let's assume that your explanation is correct: When/if we hit a shot soon we'd rather not break that anchor and give up any long term equity it might otherwise secure us. Is spending more clock time going to increase one's chance of arriving at this conclusion? For most people, probably not. Either they appreciate this principle already, based on their general understanding and experience, or they don't, and spending more clock time isn't going to change that.
