Michael -- I've been having slow-down issues on my iMac, and did a fresh OS reinstall, and when the machine tried to re-start it got hung up and frozen. I called Apple support and we went through various folders and identified some star-up files related to GNU (I forget what that starter program was called) -- we deleted them and re-tried and the problem was solved.

My main problem after all, it seems was that it's no longer okay to hold 100's of file icons on your desktop, the way it had been for 20- years after I bought me first Apple computer (1985). Nowadays apparently every icon on your desktop is treated like an open window, so with 200 - 250 windows open all the time, things were getting tight on memory I guess.

Anyway, I'm not certain that reinstalling the GNU system would be problematic, but XG seems roundly regarded as a better program, so I'm eager to go down that road.
