Whether to anchor up in the early game or keep on hitting is an excellent lesson. I have looked at these and some blanket advice is in the early game don't stop hitting unless you can make the 20pt anchor or less often, the 18pt anchor. When you can make the 20pt or the 18pt I don't mean automatically make them. I mean that is when you should stop and size up the position. If the opponent still has no board for example it is likely you keep up the hitting battle instead of anchoring. If your choice is between making your defensive bar point with the six or breaking your midpoint you generally anchor up.

In this particular position I think others have pointed out the reasons why hitting should be correct. The opp's board is blotted and you'll have many numbers to either hit back or anchor up next turn. With the opp having a lot of blots strewn around hitting makes it a lot tougher for him to consolidate. There isn't a lot of downside to hitting.
