I am not at all following Tim's logic here either.

First of all there definitely are contact positions where the best play is known and can be proven to be correct. An example is where you have only two legal plays. One breaks contact and leads to a race which is gin for the opponent and the other play hits. An exact such position is left as an exercise.

Secondly even if that statement were true it is indeed possible that all the errors were fixed. We might just not be able to know that with certainty.
