I agree with what you say, apart from people who teach and are in the closed circle of big money games I don't think there are the numbers. My fried came to visit me at a tournament in Las Vegas, he was in shock and said it looked like a poker tournament from the 60s.

Phil and Mochi are doing a lot to create interest, maybe it will improve. The thing is the smart young up and comers will gravitate to Poker because the rewards can be so huge, and let's face it backgammon is a hard game and takes years and a lot of study to master the art of the cube and tournament play.

What I've noticed over the years in local clubs, gambling in side games and chouettes is not good. This or that player will take a big loss and you won't see him/her again for months if ever again. So the numbers never seem to build up too high in any club.

I too did OK online at one point even though people were cheating - I only played in tournaments. Anyway online for money is pointless now.
