What I meant here was that the dependence on match length in the formula is surprisingly simple. Or rather, I've gotten so used to the formula that I tend to think of it as a given fact. But then, in a world where there were separate Elo ratings for each match length, I wouldn't expect those rating lists to be the same across different match lengths. Mainly I would expect differences between lists that could mostly be fixed by a linear transformation, but of course it's also true that backgammon skill is a more complex concept than that and it's not always true that if A is better than B at five-point matches then A will also be better than B at eleven-point matches.
