I'm also an Intermediate player, so take my advice for what it's worth. If you find that your back checkers are getting stuck and you're playing a lot of ace point games...and your board is cracking. You should think about splitting your back checkers at the earliest convenient opportunity. Especially if your opponent strips their 8 point.
