Game Situation Terminology?

Actually that definition for a Bear In position is no good as bearing in against contact is where things can get interesting.
The Backgammon Galore definition:
"Bear In To move a checker into your home board prior to bearing off."
Isn't precise enough to cover all positions.
Perhaps another is: You have 3 or less checkers in the outfield that you need to bring into your home board.
I searched for 'End game' and opponent has at least one anchor to find some candidates. With the above definition the positions:
would be labelled as Bear In positions while:
would not. But if you have 3 checkers left on the mid point and your opponent has an anchor on your bar point Holding game sounds like a better description. Another:
is it a Holding game where White tries to hold your last checkers back with the two anchors? Or a Bear In where you only need to bear in your two last outfield checkers.
One way to look at it is that you are playing a Bear In game while your opponent is playing a Holding game. Backgammon Studio only has concept of one position type primarily seen from the player on roll (This is backed up by any number of action/position tags). So in this case it would end up in the 'Bear In' position category.
