"This is especially true with cube decisions where for example doubling may gain 0.050 this turn on an easy take but you may be able to give your opponent a tougher cube decision next turn."
If heard this line lots of times before, even from my doubles partner in Gibraltar, but I'm yet to find any evidence that it's actually true.
I'm inclined to admit that the other stratagems, like sacrificing equity to complicate the game, or conservative cube strategy at higher cube levels to prolong the match, are probably true, I find this one the most suspicious.
An easy take/pass decision means it's an easy to understand position (I don't find many easy decisions in prime vs prime for example). In a simple position, a tough pass/take decision is probably a close one, so even if the weaker opponent gets it wrong it will probably be a very small error. In the meantime you've just sacrificed equity and possibly lost your market, and it's never coming back.
