Forgive me a greenhorn's question, but aren't other NN programs for chess or XG or any game that's too big to search the full tree (actually, not sure about chess), using such evaluation functions already? I always thought that (with a great simplification) there is a limited depth of tree search, and a "global board evaluation" function that outputs a final estimated value of a position at the end of each path.
