Feeling like I should add an addendum to Ray's 8 cube comments. From a strategic match play perspective, when one has a significant lead, you should seek to minimize cube size, volatility, and play out "small" games. Try to avoid getting into situations where you are holding a very large cube and our opponent has an opportunity to luckbox his way to some fluky victory.

This is akin to the 'grind it out' strategy that while not necessarily PR friendly, will lead you to victory more comfortably.

With respect to the Stick vs Ed 8 cube, having seen the positions (but not the answers), I suspect that the initial cube to 2 was ND/T (maybe a small D at score), the recube was most likely a RD/P (even at score!), and the 4>8 was likely R/T. So, yes, I agree, a mugging took place. But, when playing someone of Stick's caliber, you sometimes have to execute a well timed mugging. Of course, if Stick hadn't messed up the ridiculous 42 play right before he got hit in the 8cube game, then no-one would be talking about how Ed almost won an 8 cube, they'd be saying he got wiped out by Stick.
