Surprise Resignation

Chuck is correct. A player may not technically resign a non-gin position.
The reason is that there are other stakeholders besides the two players themselves. There are the people with interests in the two players in the Calcutta auction, there are ABT points at stake, there are the other players in the event that might rather play your bonehead opponent than you.
If a player were to do that against me I would simply tell them I don't accept their resignation. However if the player resets the board, I believe that you should not be penalized because you were recording the match, but I do agree that the director should be summoned to make a ruling.
