Neil: For me this is a match of importance.

Thanks for the endorsement!

Timothy: Possibly we're getting hung up over the word "importance." When I practice against a bot, I often deliberately play moves that I know are not what theory deems best, in order to improve my own mastery of the game.

I've got no problem with that.

I don't want to tell people how to vote, because it's more important to get participation. However, my goal on each play is to find the "best" play, and to try to articulate my thoughts so as to learn something. My goal isn't to beat the bot -- it's to learn something about backgammon, and I don't want to vote for a play I *know* to be suboptimal.

You can certainly learn something when you make a play that you KNOW to be sub-optimal, because you aren't "accidentally" making a mistake, and the error might lead you to "more interesting" positions. However, I think we're going to head into interesting enough waters... because backgammon inherently leads to interesting positions.
