Random seeds may not be random anymore

Chase I'd still like clarification on this, but until then my assumption is that there's no longer such thing as a random seeded rollout in XG (except for the first time, when it is initialized).

That's correct. As I mentioned in a reply in the same thread, the whole random seed idea introduced in version 1.12 was not a good one (or not implemented well).

Note that the final seed for the dice in the rollout is a combination of

  • the user entered seed
  • a hash of the initial position (before moving)

This is has always been the same since XG was released.

This way you can never pick a seed that end up being bad for the short term.
