Rollout Seed part deux

In Response To: Rollout Seed part deux (eXtreme Gammon)

I thought you explained it very well. I think we've got it (this time).

In short, for the identical position (even when the score is different), the same seed generates identical (and reliably repeatable) dice sequences in the RO. If the starting position is different, the same seed generates different dice sequences.

So, for example, using the equity for the 41S-63R play for a 41S-54 rollout can be done, but using the same seed produces different dice sequences; if minimizing variance in that way is deemed important, one shouldn't cross-pollinate results. But, for example, using the same seed for MG, DMP, GS and GG rollouts of 41S-54 produces the same dice sequences (as David hoped).

Thanks very much for the clarification.

Nack
