In Response To: Clarification of rule 5.6 (USBGT)? (Stick)

Sometime in the last 20 years (because a FIBS rule was at issue) it was noticed that for the Crawford game, a rule written "the match trailer may not double during the first game that the match leader is 1 point from victory" allowed the match leader in this game to (stupidly) double. The US Rules ("ABT Rule" if you like) was rewritten to state that the cube is dead during the Crawford game (period).

Thus the match leader was protected from his own idiocy in the Crawford game by this rewrite.

It was not unheard of in those early online years (and I suspect it still happens on site frequented by players unfamiliar with face-to-face tournament etiquette) that post-Crawford at 1-away all (or similar scores where EITHER player winning at the current cube level would end the match), a player would take a shot by offering a (re)cube hoping his opp would have a brain-fart and drop, ending the match.

A rule which prevents this latter cube-turn short-circuits the shot-attempt. A rule preventing Post-Crawford match leader from cubing also short-circuits (potentially risky) shot attempts and further is consistent with the above mentioned Crawford Rule rewrite.

Not uncommonly, the quoted rule (as written) is inconsistent with other rules, intentionally or not.
