In Response To: Thanks! (Daniel Murphy)

Thanks for digging up this stuff. I think it is still as relevant as when it was first posted, because the FIBS formula is, as far as I can tell, still the standard regarding rating systems and regarding the way we think about skill content in matches of different lengths (as evidenced by my first post in this thread).

At first sight it seems to me that the results from Tom Keith's rolls method are quite well in line with the information and data Rick and Christian are sharing here: for example, in terms of Rinta-Nikkola's skill function, Christian's data implies that skill(6.5)/skill(1) is approximately 3(*), while in the rolls method skill(6.5)/skill(1) is between 2.66 and 3.57. As another example, according to the rolls method, skill(11)/skill(7) = 5.2/3.52 = 1.48, while Jacobs-Trice-100 has skill(11)/skill(7) = 1.63, which is reasonably close and Rick's posting encourages me to think that the "Fish"-METs can be trusted for that range of match lengths.

* A slightly simplified way to compute that would be skill(6.5)/skill(1) = [(0.5804 - 0.5) / (0.5464 -0.5)]²
