Sorry that I can't answer this set of questions with more confidence. As some of the people who have already posted have noted, there isn't all that much perception of backgammon at all! I've tried putting backgammon boards in local coffee shops, but they sit untouched for months. Every so often I go back to dust them.

Regarding the face-lift: Maybe backgammon first needs to get a face!
