Breaking the 7-point gets both men home with the flexibility of being two inner spares with the outer point still counting as an attacker. If you break the 8 then either you stack on 6, losing flexibility, or you leave a spare on 7, which is somewhat redundant. Although it would save having to break the 7-point to make the 2-point, if you're doing that from the 8-point then there's no return shot off the bar. The 8-point blocks 66, which would be a much stronger escape than 55.
