In Response To: Congrats Ray! Congrats to DC event! (Bill Riles)

(BR)Generally, players are great people and most are considerate, good natured, etc.

(BR)But there are a few who, I think mostly cluelessly and unintentionally, can be very inconsiderate (to the tournament, to the directors, and to other players) and can be real jerks.

(NTK) These few players need to have things well explained to them and be warned of penalty points and even forfeits to come.

(BR)I talked quite a bit with Jason late in the day Sunday. We shared experiences with what might be the most frustrating part of a tournament for directors -- and I think other directors will agree. You can ask Player A to stand right here, your match is ready, I'll find your opponent. You go off for a minute or two to find the opponent, Player B, and drag him/her back to the spot you left Player A. Player A is gone !!. So, you tell Player B to stand right here while I find Player A. You go find Player A, drag him/her back, to then only find that Player B has wandered off. And so it goes. On and on and on all weekend.

(NTK) Yes, this, this, 1000 times THIS! Players need to have a clue when their bracket is slow and behind. They need to have a clue when heading back to their room or out for a smoke and walk or whatever when waiting on a match to finish to provide their next opp. Hint: If it's a 9 pt match, and the score is 6-5 and the cube is turned and it looks like someone is a fav to get G'd, you might want to 1) tell a staff member that situation and that you'll be back in no more than 5 minutes.

(NTK) Many ABT main events only run over about 1 day and a half and are very rushed affairs. They are made worse by the few players who are rather clueless when it comes to time and urgency.

(BR)Jason said it happened to him innumerable times this weekend in DC. And it happened to me innumerable times squared in San Antonio. Players must be more patient and cooperative in helping directors execute a tournament.

(NTK) Here's a situation from San Antonio. My pending opp for Speed Gammon chased me around for much of Saturday afternoon/evening wanting to play and frustrated that we couldn't bcuz I was just about to start a conso match. I asked him to talk to the staff to get it explained to him what was going on as I kept winning conso matches. Sure enough when Adrian beat me on Sunday. sending me to the LC, my feed in position was ahead and I had to wait for a couple of matches. But now, my SG opp was no where to be found. He'd gone to lunch without checking on my match nor telling anyone. I waited 40 minutes for him. He crushed me effortlessly, but this still slowed up the conclusion of the SG event.

(NTK) I could relate 100's of storied like the above from the past several decades.
