while attempting to learn Objective C, I was advised the best way to learn was to pick a subject that I liked and write an app. I'd been playing online at fibs and started to google backgammon. What I found were videos like this from the Backgammon London Open https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNnTq7EKtDU
This ties into Phil's thread above discussing changes to tournaments to progress the game.
Those videos with interviews were 100% the reason I hunted out a local backgammon group and played my first live match! It turns out we are spoilt for choice in London as far as backgammon clubs go. The first one I attended was in Camden Lock which has since moved to the Hippodrome casino in Leicester Square and is run by the UKBGF.
And the first thing I thought was, it's a little intimidating and you can't really talk to those anonymous people concentrating over their moves. So my first thought was a score app that showed peoples names! Names are very important to newbies.
So yeah, while I had heard of phonegap my real objective was learning objective C.
