The wild card idea has been a huge success.

That's debatable. By what measure is it a success? It's created more postseason games, more revenue, and made more fan bases excited about the prospect of winning? If that's successful, then why don't we make a 16-team postseason? Or why stop there?

It has produced numerous champions, in both baseball and the NFL.

If this is what makes it a success, then I don't think it's all that successful.
