New Major League Baseball Playoff structure (OT?)

For those who don't follow North American baseball, the recent playoff structure has been:

A) four teams from each of two leagues make the playoffs; since there are 3 divisions per league, each division winner qualifies and the team remaining outside with the best record ("Wild Card") also makes it.

B) The first round is best of 5 with all teams participating (no byes) -- team in each league with best record matched against Wild Card team from that league.

C) After the first round it's best of 7 elimination for the rest of the tournament.

Last year the Wild Card choices were extremely close in both leagues (one game difference).

So... in their infinite wisdom the league (including player approval) has decided for a new method to determine the playoff Wild Card entrant. Starting this year, two non-division winners from each league play a one game pre-tournament game with the winner advancing (to a similar subsequent playoff structure of recent years) and the loser of that game going home.

May I use one of this site's favorite initialisms: WTF??
