As David hinted the rebuy amount is low enough that equity wise it is almost a mandatory decision. If you won't because the total cost is too steep then you must realize going in that you are playing in a much lesser return tournament.

I have some issues aside from the EF and rebuy amount:

First of all for for how much time is used the format does a poor job at discriminating the best players. If most rebuy then about half will make the playoffs. So 15 rounds of games just to cut the field of who could win in half! At this point there could be a player with a record of 3 - 4 having equal standing to win the tourneamnet as one who is 3 - 0. Also since so much time was used to eliminate only half the field this means that the elimination rounds will need to be a lesser point total than they could be.

Secondly suppose a player wins in the first grouping. What to do until the playoffs start? With most still trying to qualify would there be any side tournaments available?
