Underlines and overbars

Mike's Nactation of this tricky doublets position is flawless.

Underscores (e.g., such as for the underlined lower case o he just typed) are perfectly legible. It is only a few of the lower case letters that can be tricky to distinguish when underlined, especially g, also j and q to a lesser extent. I don't find the underlined y or p to be a problem. In that order, I've underlined the five descenders below.

    g j q y p

Enlarging the font size helps:

    g j q y p

    g j q y p

    g j q y p

    g j q y p

Tem's solutions here and here seem to offer the most reliable solution, though it requires keeping the html strings handy (or having a good working knowledge of html):

    g g g

Mike, you mentioned combining diacritical marks as another solution. I do this in Microsoft Word, but I'd like to know how to do it with html. I'm thinking of overbars in particular. If it's easy enough, I am inclined to use overbars for the 5th to 8th members and demote bold font to the ninth to sixteenth.
