I believe that this situation is usually referred to as a "table stake." If so, then see this post and the followups. The bottom line is that you can do this with XG now just by feeding it a suitable MET. I don't think anyone has created such a MET but it's easy to do because it doesn't require any rolling out or complicated math.
Which leads to another feature worth killing for if bots are ever able to think like yumans. Perhaps XG v46.3 will work on a knowledge base of regular opponents, and accordingly adjust threshholds and strategies for optimum play/cube action. Sounds a bit futuristic, but so was Star Trek in the sixties.
"Artificial stupidity" is something that Douglas Zare's program zbot has to some extent. However, it's not clear that zbot will ever see the light of day. I talked to Zare about it the other day and although he hasn't entirely abandoned the hope of releasing it some day, progress on it has ground to a halt ever since Walter Trice's untimely death.
