I like splitting, too, but I prefer the minor split. The major split, up to the 21pt, comes under the gun. It would give White a triple shot to hit loose, and slot the point he next wants to make.

Making the 8pt is the pretty play, but it fails to address the urgent need to get the back checkers moving.
