How To Restore Default Rollout Settings in XG2

  1. Click Options, Settings..., Rollouts to open the Rollouts tab of the Options and Settings dialog box.
  1. At the top of the dialog box, click the triangle to open the drop-down list. It is right before the checkbox for Default.
  1. Select “(Preset) Moves 3-ply, cube decisions XG Roller.”
  1. Add a checkmark to the Default checkbox.
  1. Click OK.

Which Settings Are Best?

As to which settings are best, there is no pat answer. For most work, the default is fine, but if you have the hardware for longer rollouts, you can try higher settings. For critical opening decisions, Neil Kazaross, David Rockwell, and Dmitriy Obukhov, among others, have used 4-ply for moves and cubes. Sometimes they even use higher than that. Check out these XGR+ rollouts by Neil and Dmitriy. For bear-off situations, where rollout times are much shorter, you can justify 4-ply more readily.

For my database, I am more of an archivist than anything else. I want people to use the rollout settings they feel are best. The big thing is sharing! When folks want to share a rollout, they should send their files to me! I won’t keep them secret, and I give all credit to the rollateers.
