I insist on using the smaller dice because I know they roll more and are more likely to be random

When the dice are random you gain nothing by adding more random. It's like pregnancy. Either it's random or not.

particularly when the dice are provided by the tournament or by a trusted person and when you are using one set of dice. And you'll see it when your opponent exchanges his dices? Unless special dices are used (with a logo or such) a dice mechanic can win every race and p-vs-p. There was a couple of years ago a DVD which showed dice mechanics practices. I believe most player are honest, but using translucent dice raises the hurdle a bit.....
