Reaching DMP

Did you also count reaching 2away/2away as getting to DMP? If you count that, the percentage will go way up, and for good players, it is effectively DMP.

I will continue to argue, with anyone who will listen, that backgammon would be a better game if Crawford were applied at 2a/2a for the rest of the match. There is very little cube strategy at that score, and there would be a lot more strategy if we used Crawford from then on.

Of course matches would take longer and we would need to make some clock adjustments, but we could also shorten the length of matches to start with or simply leave a little more time for matches. Or, this could go into effect for the Semifinals and finals only.

Of course there are those who argue there is some cube skill at 2away / 2away, but not very much in the Open Division.

Now, you say you have an advantage at DMP. I assume that is because you are the more skillful player. If that is true, I am sure you would have an even greater advantage if Crawford were applied at 2a/2a. Giving the better player an even greater advantage, particularly in the Open Division, is a good thing. Wouldn't we all like to see the luck factor reduced somewhat to make backgammon more of a skill-based game? (In chouettes and money play, I agree with all the arguments that we don't want to give the more skillful player too big an edge...he already has a big one playing without a handicap, but we are talking here about high-level tournament play.)
