Bear in position vs. 3 anchor

In Response To: Bear in position vs. 3 anchor (neilkaz)

I guess I AM missing the point. I'm more concerned about playing 1's and 2's from this position, than I am in playing 3's. 3's seem to play well from the 4pt, as far as avoid uncomfortable blots, is concerned. One thing I learned a few years ago is that having checkers on the point immediately behind an advanced anchor reduces the number of blotting shots during the bearoff in a lot of situations. At the time, I looked at anchors on the 4 pt or 5 pt, but i'm sure the same principle applies for the 3 and 2 points as well.

To illustrate this, consider this position. Opponent holds your 5pt with 2 or more checkers. You have 3 checkers on the six point and checkers on your 4 pt. The only blotting number is 65. If there are no checkers on the 4pt, then blotting numbers are 65, 64, 54, 3 times as many blots. Having checkers on the point immediately behind an advanced anchor reduces the number of shots given to the opponent. This certainly doesn't mean that my suggested play is correct!

How to play 3's if we don't get the 5pt? If we don't get the 5 pt, and manage to bear in without getting hit, my inclination would be to play from the 4pt.

Please, give me at least a hint as to that which i am missing?
